Pressure Wave Generator with Controls

This pressure wave generator was designed as part of the development of a thermo-acoustic heat pump.

A thermo-acoustic heat pump needs a pressure wave generator to operate. As a first step to a commercial product, this prototype pressure wave generator was developed.

The project included: the electromagnetic modeling of the linear motors; gas flow modeling; thermal modeling; design of the pistons and their bearing system; design of the high pressure housing; development of a position sensor; development of control and measurement electronics; selection of parts such as sensors, feedthroughs and wiring; development of PC-software; documentation; commissioning and all.
